The 19th of January, 2022, saw the ceremonious event of Virtusa?s Open Day for the early-2022 period. Held at the premises of Virtusa?s office in Colombo, the event saw the participation of a number of distinguished guests as well as undergraduates. Representing Virtusa, Mr. Sampath Thrimavithana, the Human Resources Leader for Sri Lanka within Virtusa, was the key figure who graced the event on behalf of Virtusa. Other key members of Virtusa arrived and took part in this event. The Open Day was a significant event as this was held immediately after a historic MOU between Virtusa and the Java Institute for Advanced Technology. On behalf of the Java Institute, the key members who took part in this event included Dr. Nirodha Rupasinghe (CEO), Mr. Tharaka Pathum (Head of Advanced Technology), Miss Senuri Siribaddana (General Manager), and Kanchana Lakmali (Department of Examinations).
A total of approximately 100+ undergraduate students of the Java Institute took part in the Open Day. The students predominantly included the final year batches of the Institute as they were now preparing to enter the professional world. A significant number of undergraduates registered with Virtusa on the same day. It was the Java Institute for Advanced Technology that first introduced a degree qualification in software engineering in Sri Lanka. This is a leading software engineering degree in Sri Lanka and it is a ?calculated degree? with valuable accreditations, panel of lecturers, syllabus, learning hours, and other curriculum specifics. The alumni of the Java Institute are presently spread across the world and are employed in various countries, industries, as well as corporations, including Virtusa.
